Emerald Valley Dosing Protocol

Emerald Valley imports herbal solutions of the highest quality and effectiveness from Equiglobal UK. Our products are the only herbal infusions made in a full medicines licensed facility using purified water. Each of the herbal substances used in our products covers centuries of human and veterinary use.

We recommend each animal be on a protocol based on his/her unique constitution and health challenges. This is often best determined through team efforts of vets, the animals and their owners/caretakers. Farriers and other equine health practitioners also contribute valuable observations and insights, which can be crucial in the successful use of these natural infusions. The following are general guidelines, which have proven successful with a broad range of conditions.

Any amount the body does not need will be excreted in the urine. It is better to slightly overestimate weight for loading purposes, as chronic under dosing delays progress. These very palatable liquids are most often used as a top dressing. They can also be syringed orally. The manufacturer’s guarantee is 2 years full potency. They do not need refrigeration, but should be protected from freezing and do not store in a sunny window.

GUIDELINES FOR USE

EVITEX™ (hormonal imbalance & pituitary health, including insulin resistance)
Hormonal imbalance and pituitary health, including insulin resistance. In Europe, human and veterinary health care has included Vitex agnus-castus since the time of ancient Greece. Clinical research over the past two decades has shed light on its specific properties and why it has been held in such high regard in terms of daily use and effectiveness. There has never been a toxicity level found for this herbal infusion. It has been used successfully for two primary purposes: restoration of the health of the pituitary gland and hormone balance. From these two primary activities, stem the most common uses: treatment for behavior and attitude problems related to hormonal imbalance, promoting reproductive health, and a primary alternative for alleviating symptoms related to insulin resistance and healthy pituitary function, such as long, excessive hair coat, lethargy, excessive drinking and urination, weight loss, fatty deposits, cresty neck. It has been shown to be clinically beneficial by the Laminitis Clinic in England.

Most conditions respond to a single maintenance protocol, however many vets will recommend a loading period during the first month if the symptoms are serious. FOR INSULIN RESISTANCE AND PITUITARY HEALTH, EVITEX SHOULD BE USED DAILY, YEAR ROUND. These horses will also respond significantly by adding BTB Hoof or BTB Plus and Immuzim™ to the protocol. See BTB Hoof and Immuzim™ for specifics

Using Evitex for (hormone adjustment) simply requires a maintenance amount for the first 2 to 3 months, until all behavioral and attitude problems are gone. It can be used year round on a 3 week cycle, followed by one week off. Some horses benefit on a continual daily maintenance amount. Evitex promotes healthy pituitary function and IS NOT HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY. Evitex used for a mare that is difficult to breed, is best used daily for at least three months before breeding attempts begin. It maybe used to maintain progesterone stability and viability, ensuring the mare is settled and the pregnancy is off to a good start.

SERENUS (calmative)
Serenus is used for specific events and experiences, i.e. loading & shipping, stall rest, post-operative recovery days, farrier or dentistry work, training challenges, severe weather, anxiety in unfamiliar settings, etc. Multiple doses are commonly used to proactively manage known stressors for individual horses. For example, a horse that gets moderately nervous about loading and traveling may do very well with just a double dose of Serenus two hours before departure on a handful of grain. Another horse may need that amount with an additional dose (single or double) just before leaving. Serenus does not make horses weak or uncoordinated; it simply reduces their reaction to stressful situations. In training, horses are better able to maintain their focus with Serenus. Many trail riders find Serenus extremely helpful to keep horses calm when there is the possibility of a storm, or their horse gets anxious returning home and refuses to stay at a walk. If this is a problem on an all-day ride, Serenus can be poured on grain, carried in a zip-lock bag and fed at the top of the trail.

IMMUZIM(support for proper immune function)

Most frequently used in cases where there is evidence of weakened immune systems, bacterial infections, abscesses, allergies, skin disorders, or upper respiratory - coughing, nasal discharge, sinus, etc. Immuzim™ is used proactively to ensure the health of animals that are traveling and/or exposed to animals that may be ill. Administration is most often in the form of a single maintenance amount per day. However, the loading amount may be required for several days for chronic conditions or BTB Wind may need to be added to the daily regiment. Immuzim™ is usually given for a period of three weeks, stopping for a week, and resuming the maintenance amount per day for at least another 7 to 10 days. Many conditions will respond within that timeframe, although most veterinarians treat more serious illnesses with 3 to 6 months of use. Visible improvement often begins within the first 48 hours.

Not recommended when an autoimmune disorder is part of the diagnostic picture.

BTB WIND (respiratory and sinus issues)

Wind is beneficial for animals troubled with respiratory, sinus and bronchial problems, including heavey horses. It eases the discomfort of coughing and soothes the airways.

Devil’s Claw is combined with licorice root, peppermint and eucalyptus leaf making it a potent airway opener and respiratory soother. Devil’s claw helps eliminate excess fluids, while licorice root (an expectorant) has soothing properties for coughs and bronchitis. Peppermint aids respiratory function when coughs are present making breathing easier.

Eucalyptus is a powerful natural antiseptic used on its own to relieve horses with influenza, and when combined with licorice root and peppermint, increases its efficacy by acting as an expectorant and airway dilator.

Wind may be used for long term maintenance. Best results are achieved by following the loading protocol for several days, gradually tapering down to 30 to 40 ml per day. The ideal cycle is 4 to 6 weeks on, 1 week off, followed by another week or more if necessary.

BTB Wind should be given with or followed up with a cycle of Immuzim™. Some conditions may require another cycle.

CAUTION: Using this product may produce excess discharge from the nostrils. Please consult your veterinarian if green/black in color, this could be indication of serious infection and require antibiotics.

BTB PLUSBTB HOOF and ULTIMATE (pain, inflammation, circulation, joint and skeletal issues)

The primary use for these infusions is to provide an effective way to keep animals comfortable on a long-term basis. Because BTB Plus is produced with technology that is unique, it is the only Devil’s Claw product that has the full potency of its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as tremendous gastrointestinal benefits when made properly. The most humane and quickest way to get a horse’s pain under control is to LOAD the product into the horse’s system when you begin.

This is the procedure that has been by far the most used and reliable:

1) Begin immediately giving him/her recommended loading amount. The best way to offer relief for horses that are currently uncomfortable is to give them the loading amount twice per day, AM and PM. For example: a 1,000 lb horse would get 100 ml in the AM and another 100 ml in the PM.

2) Continue for as many days as necessary (minimum of 7 days) for the horse to get comfortable and weaned off pharmaceuticals. This can take anywhere from 7 days to 3 or 4 weeks. Most often delays are caused by reducing down to the maintenance amount too soon.

3) When the above is achieved and there are 3 consecutive days the horse remains comfortable, reduction can begin. Eliminate the evening amount before reducing the AM amount. If at any point during the reduction process the horse seems less than 100%, go back to the amount where he/she was comfortable and wait at least a week.

For long term maintenance measures, many animals gradually reduce down to 30 to 40 ml per day.

RASUTIN (for the maiden mare)

Rasutin is formulated primarily for the maiden mare to help at the time of parturition. It helps tone the uterine muscles, may reduce the risk of hemorrhage and helps strengthen the contractions and post-parturition conditioning. Administer Rasutin 3 months before full term and continue one month after parturition. Maintenance levels are given once per day. Follow chart on front page or see product label.

KEVADEL (Stimulates sweating)

Kevadel is a natural infusion for the non-sweating horse (anhydrosis). The ingredients, sea kelp, licorice root, dandelion root all help with proper thyroid function, improve balance of the adrenal glands and gently may help to improve kidney function. Valerian acts as a natural calmer for horses in this stressful situation. Kevadel must be double dosed for a minimum of 7 days (preferably 21 days), and then reducing to a single dose for maintenance

MANUKA LR ™ (ulcer)

Manuka LR is a unique infusion of Active Manuka Honey and DGL Licorice. It is formulated for use on horses and ponies suffering from peptic and gastric ulcers. Manuka LR works effectively as an agent inhibiting the growth of and ultimately helping to eliminate, helicobacter pylori. THIS PRODUCT MUST BE LOADED! Best results are achieved by a loading amount for 7 to 21 days, twice a day, then reducing down a maintenance amount. For long term maintenance, gradually reduce the amount to 30-40 ml per day.

HEARTBEAT (circulation)

Heartbeat helps dilate the coronary artery and enhances blood flow to the heart muscle. It is a peripheral vasodilator and dilates blood vessels away from the heart. This may help lower blood pressure and relieves the burden placed upon the heart. Heartbeat is useful on horses with founder or lower leg/hoof circulation Performance horses can benefit dramatically from the use of Heartbeat, which may allow potentially higher oxygenating volumes in the cardio-pulmonary function. USE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A VETERINARIAN.

CAUTION MUST BE OBSERVED IN HORSES PRONE TO BLEEDING. HEARTBEAT SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH DIGITALIS OR OTHER VASODILATORS.

BENEGEST(digestive disorders)

Benegest is a prebiotic, based on ScFOS that promote a balanced ecosystem in the digestive tract. By regulating the intestinal flora, Benegest helps keep horses in good health and may help reduce digestive disorders of the colic type. Best results are achieved by administering 1 oz per day for 15 days, then 1/3 to 1/2 ounce continuously thereafter. Foals need 1/3 oz. two to three times per day continuously, with an increase in periods of stress.
